Things I Want to Build

A running list of things I’ve wanted to build over the years but failed to because they required far more time and attention than I was capable of historically. In exploration I’d notice that I could do something interesting but would fail to realize that payload before context switching to something else. Building a harness around generative AI has changed this, allowing for rapid context switching and rapid pursuit of contexts to a form of completion I’ve not been able to achieve before.
- A reduced friction note taking system where I could be more transparent and honest about what I’m thinking about. This is the attempt. Earlier searches for this are scattered across 2019 and 2022 link collections.
- A rapid way to plan for experiences for my family, synthesizing exploration into plans and implementing those plans. One of the first real attempts at this is over at crawl.dunn.dev.
- My own immutable OSTree style derivative that has what I want baked in. I’ve started this over in Immutable. The first deployment surfaced some interesting gaps.
- More frequent contribution to open source, actual payloads of work beyond discussion. Watch my GitLab and GitHub as I’m leaning into this more.
- More pursuit of development and research into publication, using publishing and sharing as a mechanism to cultivate community. The composable tooling post reflects on how we’ve been building all of this via CLI composition rather than MCP.
- A better way to go from noticing a trend, or topology, to formal analysis and visualization. Maybe that trend wasn’t actually there, but what did we discover in the journey? Past link collections have catalogued tools for this: superset and mapping tools, visualization for science.
- A better way to explore how I listen to music over time, recommendations for new artists without leveraging predatory businesses. Earlier explorations of open music infrastructure in March 2022 and August 2018 link collections.
